Syllabus

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Multi-Tasking Staff (Non-Technical) and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) examination. The selection process involves a Computer Based Examination (CBE) divided into two sessions. It is mandatory to attempt both sessions. Candidates applying for Havaldar posts must also clear a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST).

Note: Session I is qualifying in nature. Final merit is prepared solely based on performance in Session II.

Numerical and Mathematical Ability

This section tests basic mathematical proficiency up to the 10th-standard level.

Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving

The reasoning section focuses on the candidate's logical thinking and general learning ability.

General Awareness

This is the most critical section for the merit list. It covers a broad range of social studies and general sciences up to the matriculation level.

This part assesses the candidate's understanding of the English language, vocabulary, and grammar basics.

  • Vocabulary: Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases, and One-word substitutions.

  • Comprehension: Reading Comprehension passages and Cloze Test.

Preparation Tips for SSC MTS 2026

  • Prioritize Session II: Since General Awareness and English determine your final selection, dedicate 70% of your study time to these subjects.
  • Master Calculations: Use shortcut tricks and memorize squares (up to 30) and cubes (up to 20) to clear the qualifying Session I efficiently.
  • Daily Current Affairs: Stay updated with the last 6–12 months of news. Focus on government schemes, appointments, and sports.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Multi-Tasking Staff (Non-Technical) and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) examination using a computerized format. The 2026 exam pattern is designed to evaluate candidates in two distinct sessions on the same day. It is important to note that performance in Session II is the primary factor for the final merit list, while Session I serves as a qualifying stage.

Exam Stages and Structure

The selection process for the 2026 cycle involves the following mandatory stages:

  • Computer Based Examination (CBE): A single objective-type exam split into two mandatory sessions.
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET) / Physical Standard Test (PST): This stage is applicable only for candidates who have applied for the post of Havaldar.
  • Document Verification (DV): Final stage for all qualified candidates to verify original eligibility documents.

Marking Scheme

The marking scheme differs significantly between the two sessions. Accuracy is critical in the second half of the exam.

Final Selection Process

The selection process is governed by specific qualifying and merit-based criteria:

  • Session I Qualification: Candidates must score minimum qualifying marks in Session I. If a candidate fails to qualify Session I, their Session II answers will not be evaluated.
  • Merit Ranking: For the MTS post, the final merit list is prepared only based on marks obtained in Session II.
  • Havaldar Post Requirements: Candidates for the Havaldar post must qualify the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) standards in addition to the written marks. Typical PET requirements include a walking test (1600m in 15 mins for males; 1km in 20 mins for females).
  • Normalized Scores: Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, marks are normalized to ensure fairness across different difficulty levels.
